How California's Regional Center system and In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) work, including getting paid to care for your own child.
Some states run a dedicated developmental-disability services system. California's is the best known: Regional Centers coordinate services for people with developmental disabilities from birth, and In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) can even pay a parent to provide care for their disabled child.
If your state has an equivalent, getting connected early is one of the highest-value moves you can make; it's the front door to evaluations, service funding, and respite.
